Boo is going thru a bad molt at the moment & I noticed she's making these little squeaking noises a lot. She also seems to "sneeze" a few times. Her nostrils look fine & she's eating, but she's a little fluffed although that could be the molt. She also sleeps on my arm more than usual. I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas? Pesto seems fine, so whatever it is only effects her, that's why I was thinking it's something to do with the molt.

Its good that your taking her for a check up Andy, although I would guess its just a heavy moult, but the sleeping thing is slightly worrying. Hope all goes well :)

I just got back from the vet, it seems she has a respiratory infection, either bacterial or viral. She could have been weakened from the molt (it is pretty bad, feathers & sheath dust everywhere!). They have her on oxygen, anti-biotics & an anti-fungal medication. Hopefully she'll be ok, she was still flying, eating & perching, so she was still pretty strong. The vet is calling me this afternoon for an update but she'll probably be at the vets until Saturday at the earliest. I'll keep you updated. She's a tough little bird, so fingers crossed.

Andy.

Well, she's still at the vets. They did x-ray's & her heart is enlarged from aspergillosis. The vet thinks it may have been the bad molt that lowered her immune system, who knows? Pesto is fine & the molt is the only thing that was different between them at the time.

Anyway, she ate yesterday & played with a tissue but today she's more lethargic. I'm hoping she's just tired from fighting the infection. She's in an incubator with oxygen & they're doing "nebulization" for the antibiotics & anti-fungal medication. The vet says it's 50/50, she may get over it, she may not, it's hard to tell at the moment.

She'll be at the vet at least until Monday (if she survives) until she comes home.

I'll keep you posted, fingers crossed.
