I put a small rope covered sphere inside the cage and he wouldn't go near it. eek
I thought that he would love it.
I searched the old posts and saw that Bonnie suggested hanging it on the outside the cage for a while. I'll try that.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Bigboy studiously avoids new toys - also old toys. I believe he is a closet toy player. I NEVER see him playing with any toys, but when he doesn't think I am there to see, I have seen him attack one or more of his toys. drats

You've got some good advice,Patty. I usually hang new toys on the outside of the cage for a day or two before hanging it inside. I do this with my other birds too. Some birds are more suspicious of new things than others so it can take a little longer.

Ha, ha, Big Boy!! Why is it they talk when we're not around too? Spike starts talking the minute I turn the water on in the kitchen. Then the second I turn it off, he stops talking!

I've really not had much of a problem with new toys and Cricket. It's the big guys that are scared to death of new toys!

I'm finding out what you mean about the talking, Laura. Are they also "closet talkers"? For the last few days I thought that I heard him say "PEEEEEKABOO!" from another room, but as soon as I got closer and he saw me, he shut up. Yesterday, I knew that I was hearing something new, so I listened right outside the door and not only was he saying "Peeeekaboo!", he was also saying "scratch, scratch, scratch". You can just about imagine my excitement! jumping for joy :bana: It was like when my firstborn said "bug" many years ago. Now, if he could only do it when someone else is around so that my family doesn't think I'm cracking up!

Back to the toy. I had also got a boing at the same time that I hung right outside his cage, so I switched them out and hung the sphere outside. He jumped right on that boing inside the cage, even though it's much bigger. I had him step up onto the sphere outside of the cage yesterday, he was just fine. Go figure. Thanks for the input. I'm going to keep switching them out.

It's so exciting to hear them talk for the first time, and don't they have the cutest little voices? I love to hear them.

When I'm upstairs Spike really starts talking a lot. I have to stand at the top of the stairs to hear him...."I love you"...."Pretty Baby"....Cute boy, kiss kiss, etc. So yes, they are definitely closet talkers!

Gail, isn't it funny that little Parrotlets are less fearful than the big birds? I don't know if I'd want to see a Parrotlet personality in a big bird body!! eek

It's like that article by Sandee Molinda said, they have such a hard life in the wild they'd never survive unless they had that "attitude"!!
