Hi Donna....welcome!! We'd love to hear about your parrotlets. And we love photos too. If you have a Photobucket account, just upload photos there and link to them here. :)

HI LauraR,
I've got Pickle he's the one in the photo, he's a fantastic little bird who I got from Tracy-Ann and Sue at widlheart pets. He is six months old now, I Got him a soon as he was weaned and he was talking after two weeks ( can you tell I'm very proud of him).

The other two are a completely different story, I first saw them 8 months ago when I was Looking to buy Pickle but I only wanted the one bird so we could bond better. I felt really sad to leave them as they were in a dark corner in a small cage and very nervous. I went back to the pet shop two weeks ago and I was horrified that they were still there, all they have been feed is seed, there beaks are over grown ( one worse than the other) and the both have at least two claws missing.

Sorry I'm rambling now.

Anyway last Friday I went and brought them, one is a male blue fallow ( I think) who I have named Blue, the other one which I've named Luca, I am not sure about.

I have described him/her on another forum and was told that it sounds like a female Forpus c lucida.

I will post photo's as soon as possible and write again soon as I have many questions I would like to ask regarding the Heath of this pair. I have got them in quarantine at the moment for the safety of Pickle.

Thanks for listening

Donna

Good for you Donna! I'm glad you gave the 2 little guys a good home    2.gif 0163951

They may take some work, but they will probably turn out to be great pets, although they may not bond to you as Pickle has.

They do look better in the second photo Donna 2.gif

Have you had a vet look at Luca's beak? Maybe it's the photo, but it seems a little long & may need a trim, but if there's a sand perch in their cage he will wear it down himself.

This is the best way to tell if you have a male or female Parrotlet go to this link http://www.parrotlet.org.uk/ and click on Sexing.
It is hard to tell from, the pictures but you might find that the beak will just flake off once that is gone she/he will then be able to wear it down themselves on some cuttle, Squeak used to have this so its not uncommon :)

They do look better and Andy is right the beak is too long so please keep an eye on it,using the sand perches will help but may need a quick snipping at the vet too. It will cause him problems in eating if it gets too long. You could take him to where you bought Pickles and they will help you with the beak.
