So I was thinking about getting a second parrotlet for the longest time and Mochi seemed to really want a birdy-buddy. I gathered that from him doing a wiggly-dance every time he was even near his reflection and hollering at the wild birds, so I contacted my breeder and he said he had about 6 girl parrotlets that he *could not* get rid of ranging in ages from 3-8 months (mean while he has a waiting list a mile long for boys.) And he said since he can tell I've put a lot of work and effort into bonding with Mochi and that I am really good with parrotlets, apparently I'm the only one Mochi will let scratch him lol. The breeder said I could take one of his females for free. So I brought Mochi over to the breeders and we tried to find a parrotlet that I liked and we thought Mochi would like, it came down to two- a 3 month old who is green but is the product of Green/Blue parents so if I do ever decide to breed them I could end up with blue babies and she is really really really sweet and gentle and was going to have to be seperated from her cage mate because her cage mate had plucked all her face feathers. The other one I was considering was a female who is Mochi's sister from a different clutch, she had a bit of blue running through her, she is 8 months old and is missing a toenail. She really liked biting and had a sharp beak but calmed down after being held and given a beak rub for a couple minutes- but she also liked hiding under furniture. So we put Mochi on mini-speed dates with each of them and he seemed to get along with his sister better (he did a wiggle-neck for her) but I went with the pure green one simply because I had already been bleeding in 5 places from the his sister and had gone under couches twice for her but the breeder said that on the off chance that Mochi never does accept the pure green one I could trade her back for his sister. I think Mochi may have been traumatized from when he was attacked by the nesting female (we had to keep reapplying the powder to stop bleeding because he kept tearing it off and then we had to wrap him up in a towel like a little parrot taco just to stop the bleeding, and this took place over the course of a couple hours because the breeder wasn't home at this point only his daughter who is somewhat of an apprentice so she can do some things like clip wings, which is why we had brought Mochi over but didn't fully know how to stop bleeding. But in any case he is terrified of her and since she lost her cage mate she was a new birdy-buddy so she will chase him around and he will run for his life. I have them in seperate cages but she likes Mochi's a lot more than her own. In any case without any further ado here is a picture of my two birdies together. Mochi is on the right and the one on the left is the new one who I've named Penny and she already has relearnt to step-up and give kisses. :) Just doesnt like scratches. Posted Image |
