Hi, it's been awhile since I've posted here... Sweet Pea is getting to the point where I don't want to get him out of his cage. All he does is bite, he's not happy and I just don't know what to do any more. I can still manage to get him into a flight suit that he chews on to no end. He won't "step up" any more and when I manage to get him out of his cage, he just bites and draws blood. Seems like the more I try to spend time with him, the more he hate me. I have let him go a few days, with me just kind of ignoring him... feeding him, cleaning his cage but not really interacting with him and that didn't even phase him. I give him baths, let him play in the water which he seems to kind of enjoy. I love my bird, just wish he wasn't so violent!! I don't want to re-home him, but I don't want a mean bird either. I've tried a ton of things that you all have suggested when I first got him... take him into a quiet room, away from his cage, spend a lot of time with him...etc... Right now, I'm so close to posting him on craigslist and it breaks my heart to even think that way because I love animals and would hate myself for having to re-home one. What more can I do? Thank you so much for reading this. :( |

Seems like a parrotlet thing... Sky and Mint bite me hard each time I handle them... I have got to the point now when I think they will never like me.. I handle them in a cloth... Its the only way I can do it.. Ive had this trouble since Ive had them both.. nothing works for me.. My daughter comes home from working abroad, after 7 months, puts her hand in the cage says, jump up, and they do and dont bite her... My guess is they just dont like some of us.. Its heart breaking but Ive got use to it now.. My little boy parrotlet is so different I can do anything with him and he has never biten anyone.. |

Like Jan says, some parrotlets are just like that. They're fiesty little guys for sure. I've had two parrotlets that I couldn't win over before. Finally I just accepted that we would never have a cuddly relationship, or rather I wouldn't be able to get them out of their cage. I now have another little boy who is sweet and I can do anything with. Can you just let him out to play and accept that he won't be the cuddly type of bird? He may not be unhappy, he just wants to do his own thing. |

All true, once in a while there may be a bird that just can't get on with someone, who knows why. I have to ask though, did you change anything or did he suddenly just get like this, he used to be fine right? Is he flighted? How long do/did you spend with him out of his cage each day & was he with you all the time? Cane anyone handle at all? Be aware that animals are very hormonal this time of year & he may be going through "a phase". |

All very good replys the only thing I would add would be that I would give up on the flight suit maybe this is why he bites he dislikes being in the suit |

Yeah, I don't know of many people that have had success with small birds & flight suits. |
