I gave Sue at wildheart pets a ring the other day to find out what babies they have now and in the near future, and she's given me a lot to think about! It sounds like they've got quite a few different ones now, pied celestials, blue and green celestials, spectacledxcelestials.... I had been thinking about a male blue celestial as a friend for Naboo, but am going to have to look at lots of pictures on the internet now to make up my mind! I don't want to breed (I'd never be able to part with the babies!), and had read somewhere that the aggression problems can occur when they get into breeding mode so had ruled out a female- however sue said this wouldn't be a problem as long as they didn't have a nest box. Naboo is putting up with more affection from me since Sweep left, but he does seem to be 'lost' and unsure what to do. I would like to eventually put him in the larger lovebird cage with the new bird (lots of 'ifs' here!), and am hoping it might stop his feather mutilation problems. Thoughts anyone? would 2 males be less 'bonded' with each other? Naboo is 2 now, would he bully a juvenile? Oh, and jackie, i'd love one of your babies, but york is just too far from me! :( Edited by schmatalie, Jul 9 2010, 01:04 PM.

If you get a female and they bond together they can still be pretty nasty to other birds as Bubble and Squeak were. Pip and Squeak were both males and bonded but not as closely as a male and female although they still mated one another. There is still no guarantee that they will even like one another, its a hard decision to make I have thought of getting Squeak a mate for some time but if they didn't get on that would mean another cage and seperate times out so I haven't bothered |

Id go for 2 males... I find the females very nippy.. Do you really want one for Naboo? You may find they hate each other.. you'll need another cage incase they dont agree... My advise just have Naboo.. I wish someone had advised me this way when I wanted 2.. its been the biggest mistake I made.. Sorry to be down but its just my findings |

It is a tough decision to make and only one you can make it really, but i agree with jan i would probably advise two males ,as i find the girls more aggressive. When i first got scooby i was only going to have him, and we were getting along great ,but then i decided to get him a friend so i got sky and then scooby really did not want to know me anymore . As the other have said there is a chance that they will not get along and you might end up with 2 seperate cage. smurf my blue female does not like any other birds or parrotlets she is really anti social and will not mix. i wish you luck with what ever you decide :) |

Another male seems to be the way to go. I already have an empty cage from the lovebird and am finding it strange to only get two bowls of food ready in the morning instead of three! i think Naboo will warm to the newcomer eventually (it took months for him to stop hating the lovebird), but i have no idea what it will make of him! Naboo keeps getting closer to the cockatiels and is being studiously ignored by them, he obviously is looking for some bird company. I used to love watching him and Sweep play and be 'proper' birds. Kev - I think Squeak has got a budgie he's friends with (?), so is probably getting the interaction that i think Naboo is missing. I might not even move the two in to the same cage, but just let them have time out together? |
