My Macaw, Buster has been battling sinus infections for a very long time now. At least once a year I have to administer antibiotics to him. This last infection would not clear up even after 6 weeks of treatments and two different antibiotics. I had to take him to the vet this morning for xrays and a sinus flush. They had to knock him out to do the procedure :(

I just got the call from the vet and all went well. He said they found some foreign material in his sinuses and are sending them to the lab for analysis.

I'm going to pick up the patient in a few minutes. He is not going to be happy with me... :scared:

How did it go, Gail? Buster is going to think you saved him from the vet, don't worry, he'll still love you. How is he feeling?

Thanks everyone!

When I picked him up yesterday at the vet's he went over the xrays with me. It was very interesting to see Buster from the inside out! The vet told me he is one healthy bird! He showed me his lungs, heart, sinus, air sacs, spleen and everything in between! All healthy.

The receptionist had told me that they found some particles but when I spoke with the vet he told me there was nothing but some mucus which he was sending a sample to the lab. He also gave me a five day supply of Metacam. I guess it's an anti-inflammatory type medication.

I got Buster up for breakfast this morning and not one sneeze and no discharge whatsoever. So...fingers crossed that the sinus flush did the trick!!!

Here's a pic of my little patient..

I've used Metacam before, it's good stuff.

As Laura said, Metacam is great, it pretty much saved Boo Boo (plus oxygen & antibiotics).
