Jan are asking about the Linnies? They do look an awful lot like the Parrotlet only bigger.

Before I got Cricket I was looking at them in the store and thought they were Parrotlets :)

blue2 the turquoise birds are our 'linnies' Rosie and Jim

yellow1 the yellow are our Celestial Parrotlets Woody and Rosie

It is so nice that my son has found this site and we can find out more about our litle feathered friends

and he gets all the hard work of sorting cages out

In case you or anyone else is interested in the Linnies, here's a little that I've observed in the short time we've hd them.

The Linnies are far more laid back than the Celestials. After going to see a Celestial breeder, we got our first sight of the Linnies and she explained that they did not have a problem with strangers getting close to the cage. This has been the case......they are generally so laid back that they are almost horizontal. If you put your hand into the cage they do not get frantic and try to escape. They will slowly back away. If frightened they freeze. Thier heads go down and thier bums go up and that's how they stay until they feel comfortable again.

They are about twice the size of the celestials, I guess, a little smaller than a starling.

Like Parrots they use thier claws to hold thier food, leading some to suggest they should actually be classed as a parrot.

They do talk, although, like parrotlets, not all of them do.

They LOVE the water. Ours take no notice of a bowl of water but the plant sprayer sends them into extasy. They hang upside down from thier perch and spread thier wings, tuning from side to side to make sure every bit of them gets wet, then spend hours preening and grooming each other.

They take no notice of the mineral block nor the cuttle as apposed to the Cellestials.

They are quick to investigate new toys and climbing frames, unlike our Willow and woody, who shy away from anything new for days.

Well...thats it for the moment. I realise that most of this is based on our own birds and I guess Woody and Willow are just taking much longer to settle in. I will say that W and W's new bigger cage has been a big hit. They love being able to actually fly from one end to the other, and Woody can now get some distance between him and Willow when she gets into a tantrum. 2.gif

Beautiful birds & healthy looking too nodding 2.gif

As all the others have said, cage size isn't really an issue as long as the cage isn't tiny. I had my pair in a cage about the size of you linnie cage, maybe a tad bigger & they got very territorial & aggressive. I think the bigger the space the more they feel they have to defend. Now both are in smaller cages, one in an 18"x24"x36" & he seems very happy. They female is in a smaller (height wise) cage & she is happy also. I had to separate them as they were injuring each other.

As long as they have plenty of toys they usually do ok, your guys should be very happy in their new palaces 0163951 nodding
