hey everyone, so when i got up this morning let gizzy out as normal but all he did from about half 8 till 1 he just slept on me, so rang the vets and took him in.
they said he was physically in great health but something has put him off his food and very sleepy. he had given me fluids to give him by syringe twice a day until he starts eating again.
have gotten all his favourite foods and treats to try and tempt him, he has had a small amount of millet but has regurgitated it since.
i don't know whether to just let him sleep and rest or try and get him moving and playing etc, what does everyone think?

Was he sleepy looking when you took him to the vets? And more importantly was it a specialist avian vet?
Has he eatten at all? Have you tried giving him fresh fruit and veg?
I don know much about illnesses but could be possible he has a crop infection? Espcially if he is eating but Reguritating.

he was all chirpy at the vets, and no it was just an exotics vet. he has eaten a little and drank since i last posted but is still just sleeping. he nibbled on a strawberry for a few minutes too, loves getting the seeds from those
vet said his mouth was all clear and he checked his abdomen, said it was fine

I hope he gets better, if he is eating that's definatly a good sign!
If he hasn't improved tomorrow I would try and book in to see an avian vet, birds are so specialist that most vets don't really have a knowledge of birds! I'm no expert but if I was the vet I would of checked the crop, that's were food problems can occur and an example of the droppings. I bet you were charged a fortune for it too!

Sorry to hear he's not feeling so good, hopefully it'll pass. It's so hard to diagnose birds, but it does sound like something to do with his crop. Usually infections make them tired (same as us) as their body is fighting it off. maybe some antibiotics?

I hope your little guy continues to improve. If not he really should see an Avian vet.

well i rang the vet this morning cos he was no better and he said that i can either take him to the nearest avian vet which is 3 hour drive away and costs £150 just to get through the door or we could risk giving him antibiotics that might just make him worse and there would be no going bk. thankfully (in a way) i found a tin foil cake tin down the side of his cage that he has obviously chewed and i didn't know about it. so i rang the vet bk straightaway and he agreed with me that it is most likely tin poisoning and to just keep giving him fluids and heat and just lots of attention really. he's perked up a little bit today and has eaten millet throughout the day so thats good
