blue2 I owned 2 parrottlets for 6 years..from babies purchased from breeder....a blue male celestial named Joseph and a yellow celestial female named Mary..sadly after getting two opinions from two vets..Joseph went for surgey to remove a rhinolith from his nostril..he woke from surgery to suffer a cardiac arrest..we was devastated..i wanted to give him a chance as it would of been perhaps 6 months??1 yr and he would of had to of been put down..with the growth on his nostril..anyhows..after a few days of bein alone ...Mary the remaining partner..actually was beginning to come out of her *shell* a bit..and was happy interacting more..i introduced a budgie friend for her..10 wk old male...as she started to be a little more dominant..with loss of her mate..she wud occasionaly peck at the budgie but she also..attempted many times to groom him also...as wll as feed beak to beak.. and she aslo done this side to side wiggle dance infront of the budgie that i have never seen her do before at all awwwww...as i was awaiting on a order of a parrottlet..(another celestial blue male 6yrs)..i have since taken the budgie out of her cage..and he is now in a cage on his own..Mary will be alone for a few days until i introduce her new male parrottlet later on this week..(not sure of a name yet lol) yellow1 |

Poor Joseph :( so sad!!! I wouldnt of expected a vet to put such a small bird into surgery, im not 100% sure if im right or just talking nonesence but the drugs they use to 'knock them out' are surely too dangerous for plets? some one may correct me here lol!! awww but so sorry for your loss hun, you did all you could! bet your looking forward for he new mate to come! |

Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about poor little Joseph. I don't think many vets would use anesthesia on such a little bird either, but I suppose he thought it was worth trying. I hope Mary likes her new boyfriend. Are you going to introduce them in a neutral area? I would do this so Mary doesn't feel too territorial. :) |

My avian vet put Mint to sleep when she had a broken hip and knee.to set it. She came through it ok. She is still with me today. Guess we were very lucky |

Must be an excellent vet. You really wouldn't imagine a bird to survive after a broken hip and knee. :( but wonderful that it was all sorted 2.gif |

You are right Hayley; Chris Hall's Vets in Sheen (Richmond) would not operate on Spike as parrotlets are tiny; they only numb them with a gas for a quick xray or something but not for a lenghty operation, they do not survive them. sorry to hear the bad news about Joseph yellow1 Stef |
