Boo Boo has been making a new sound lately, especially since Pesto is here, but not necessarily to him. It's a low growl type of noise, not very loud.

She did this to me when I walked up to her cage to say hi (after she bit me earlier in the day) and a few minutes ago when I got her out of the cage to make her do step-ups. She stepped up but I heard the growl noise. She's not in full attack mode (lowering her body, wings spread), just normal posture. Anyone have any ideas what this is?

I have no idea! May be she's just clearing her throat...lol! But seriously if she's not posturing then I wouldn't take it as being aggressive...

I would love to hear her make that sound!!!! :)

As long as she's not acting agressive it sounds like she's just picked up a sound she likes to make.

If any one has seen the Arnie movie 'Predator', Boo makes the same rapid clicking kind of sound that the alien made. I'll try to get a sound bite (no pun intended) to post.

Sunshine makes what might be a similar rapid clicking noise (like the tempo of growling, except clicks instead of guttural dog sounds). She generally does this when she perceives something is invading her space (or airspace). A bird flying close by the window, someone tossing an object in the room she is in, or an unfamiliar toy being put in her cage are typical causes of her rapid clicking.

For her, it seems to be a noise of displeasure, but not necessarily agression.

Yes, that's it, wds! It's a clicking sound. I think Boo is expressing her displeasure because she also makes this noise if she sees a bird outside or if our other parrotlet flaps his wings fast and makes a fluttery noise. It's only recently that she's started to do this to me angrey2

Does anyone know what I can do to make her less angry with me? I've heard of some parrots who just don't like a person for whatever reason, maybe it's just like that and there's not a lot I can do about it??

Awww! Laura…I’m sorry! :( I have had Buster for over 18 years now and he will have absolutely NOTHING to do with my husband other then an occasional “hello”. And heaven help him if he ever tried to pick him up…

I feel bad for my husband cause he really can’t understand why Buster treats him this way…

He has totally bonded with me and has been that way since the first time I picked him up in the pet store over 18 years ago. I am the only one that has ever picked up Buster! eek.

i hear this noise a lot from squeak, he does it when either the budgies or the girls get too close to him, and his girl. my first parrotlet Jake used to do this but while we were playing, i would stack some wooden blocks up and he would run at them, head down ass up clicking and knock them all down, then wait for me to restack them. so it could also mean pleasure, aggression or as wds said displeasure.
Laura i would suggest that you do everything for boo for a couple of weeks, taking her out, feeding and cleaning the cage (unless you already do this) and try spending more time with her than Andy
it might work and i see no reason why not , but she might be like buster and only like one person, but try anyway

Kev, I already feed her and I'm around her most because I work from home. Yesterday I got Pesto out of his cage and I tried to get her so they could play but she refused to come out and lunged at me.

She has had less one on one time with Andy because he's been working on a new window we're putting in our house. Maybe she's upset about that or even is having a hard time adjusting to Pesto being here?

Gail, it might be like that for me and Boo. I was thinking of getting her a cage with swivel out bowls so I don't have to put my hand in the cage! eek.

Sadly sometimes some birds just don't like certain people. It's not your fault at all because I know you feed and clean so it's not like you just want to hold her. Birds are just funny like that and no matter what you do they won't let you touch them.

Laura one thing you should try if you haven't already. Take Boo Boo away from her familar surroundings for a few minutes at a time and spend some time with her that way. She may look to you for security...

That's a good idea, Gail. The entire house is familiar to her, so I think I'll take her outside -- we have one of those screened in gazebo tents so she'll be safe and I can just sit there with her for a few minutes. She'll be out of her element. I'll let you know how it goes and whether I still have all of my fingers eek.
I know it's not my fault, Bonnie, but I still feed bad!! angrey2
