I came home from work today and the first thing I do is let the birds out. Well I went over to Cricket's cage and opened it. He looked at me and made himself all big and was chattering at me. I tried to pick him up and he lunged several times all the while trying to bite me...

OMG... angrey2 angrey2

He seems ok now but what the heck..

Oh, that's too bad, Gail! :( Has Cricket ever done anything remotely aggressive before? I hope he hasn't been watching the video of Boo attacking the ball. That would be a terrible influence on any parrotlet. :)

But seriously, maybe someone who's had their parrotlet for a few years can tell us if this is 'normal' behavior. I wonder if he's getting 'hormonal'?

It is possible Gail that the hormones are kicking in as Laura said. I know others may have their opinion but I think the males are worse when this happens.

I totally agree with kevinp that it was likely one of those days, but keep an eye out just to make sure.

I took Sunshine out of her home yesterday, and set her on my bed so she could hang out with me while I read a book. She spontaneously decided to attack my kneecap! Head down, butt up, feathers fluffed ... full attack mode :). Not typical behavior for her these days (perhaps in the past), but I scooped her up and placed her on my shoulder and she calmed down and turned sweet, and within half an hour began grooming my 'feathers' (hair and beard).

So like other folks said, probably just a mood or a freak reaction :). Watch out to make sure, but it wouldn't be totally unusual behavior for my little dynamo. Hopefully just a 'mood' :).

Andy now that you mention it…. you may have something there…I had a pink and white striped shirt on. When I went up to his cage to let him out, he was acting the way he acts with the plastic bags! Could be he really didn’t like what I was wearing! :P

I have a striped shirt that Jo Jo hates and will NOT come out of the cage if I'm wearing it.
