Hey everyone, firstly just wanted to say a big thanks to kev for allowing my username after thinking it was spam lol
:D im glad i can be amongst (what iv read) a group of friendly pet lovers
 Secondly, i picked up my very first pair of birds about 2 days ago. 2 very beutiful Parrotlets, a blue coloured male and a green female, only 12 weeks old too. So far they have no names so any good suggestions would be appreciated :P Iv never owned birds b4 so this is all new to me. I have a few queries too, such as, when should i start introducing my hand to them and how? What friut/veg should i give them? (iv just tried them with a piece of broccoli but they are VERY suspicious of it and wont go near it  Are they easy to train? and how long should i leave them in the cage b4 i let them out? i was told 7-10 days, can anyone confirm this? lol. Also will they become less skittish? every time i approach the cage they will fly away or ignore me :( I will post pics once i figure out how lol Mike |

Hi and welcome to the forum. i would start introducing your hand right away, get them used to your hand going into the cage first then gradually work from there. bonnie will give you some great advice for this. i give mine apple broccoli and baby sweetcorn each day, they don't always eat it all but most days they do. mine also like eggfood which they get replaced every other day or so. they will also enjoy pommigranit (sp) strawberry's these two fruits are very messy though  letting them out of the cage is a hard question to answer as hey may be very difficult to catch :) just make sure all windows and doors are closed before letting them out. kev |

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new additions! Just so happens that one of the members here, Bonnie ...is naming her two babies as well! You will find a thread with all kinds of suggestions! This is only my opinion, but I personally think 7-10 days is way too long! I would try after a couple days or when they seem comfortable in their new surroundings. As far as food...I give mine just about anything I eat. Cricket has a great little appetite and he's always trying new food... Just remember..no apple seeds, avacodos, chocolate, caffiene or alcohol... :) |

Are your male and female brother and sister Mike? If they are you will have to seperate them so they don't breed when they get older. Sadly you should do it sooner than later so they don't get too bonded. Not sure how you feel about clipping wings but it does make it easier to work with them if the wings are clipped. If you don't want to clip as Kevin said make your house more bird safe because they fly very fast and injuries can happen in a blink of an eye. I too am getting a male and a female in about 3 weeks so I will be going through the same as you. I do plan on clipping my birds wings as soon as I'm sure they have good balance. I won't do a total clip but do want to slow them down. There is a product called Beak Appetit, I just tried it with my birds and they love it. As far as the fruits and veggies it takes time for them to accept new things but keep feeding it to them. If you go under food and nutrition on the forum there is a list of things NOT to feed your birds. As Kevin said go in the cage and keep saying the words step up when you go near the birds. Do this in a slow but steady motion. I think I would just take one at a time out for now. I alwys tell everyone a bathroom is the safest pace to aquaint yourself with your bird. It's small area and less likely they will get hurt. Good luck and keep us posted ....oh we love pictures :D |

they aint related as far as im aware, well this was what the guy told me lol. Thanks for the advice and ill be sure to introduce my hand from tomoro onwards
:) The cage i have allows the doors to swing inwards to create landing platforms so if i let them out they will return when hungry lol
:P Whats eggfood? can anyone else give me good tips? :D also, The female seems to have very fluffy feathers....is it possible they are her baby feathers still? Mike |

Hi Mike, welcome. I don't think anyone has asked, but are your birds hand-raised or parent raised? If they're parent raised things are going to be a little different & you have a lot of work ahead of you       Search around on the threads, there's a ton of tips & advice that will really help you. There may be some questions answered that you haven't even thought of yet :D WE NEED PICS            |

If I were you I would be sure they aren't related . As Andy said look under the food and nutrition area of the forum, lots of great advice there. You can make scrambled eggs for your birds too. |

no they aint related, i asked my dad and he said the guy hu sold us them said they wernt. I got them from waterworld on the wirral in england (northwest) and they had lots of human contact but the keepers arnt allowed to get attatched to the birds due to them being sold lol. The male seems quite protective of the female and shoos her away from me when i go near the cage. its as if hes saying "come on love lets move..he has facial hair" How do i upload pics on this forum? I think im gunna call the male one Hiro (Hero) after Hiro Nakamura from the american show Heroes. Not to sure on the girl yet. Possibly Mia (My-a rather than Mee-a) but thats a working process lol Mike |

well no mods around so ill try my best to explain it.
 if you make an account on a site called photobucket.com. you can upload your pics to that site, then once they are on the site you can copy the img code underneath the pic you just uploaded. once you copy the code, you paste it onto your post here on the forum. that might help i tried my best  |
